Under regular use, the serpentine drive belt needs to be inspected at round 45,000 miles or after 3-4 years of service. Belt elimination:
NOTE: If something differs between the images proven above and the Belt Routing Label (situated within the engine compartment), use the schematic on the Routing Label.
CAUTION: DO NOT LET TENSIONER ARM SNAP BACK TO THE FREEARM POSITION, SEVERE DAMAGE MAY OCCUR TO THE TENSIONER. SLOWLY RELAX THE TENSION BACK TO THE STOP POSITION.
1. Disconnect detrimental battery cable from battery.
On 3.0L engines, use a 12 level, 17mm socket and an extended deal with ratchet (3/8″ drive) to rotate the accent drive belt tensioner (5) counterclockwise till it contacts its cease. Remove accent drive belt. Slowly rotate the belt tensioner again into its freearm place.
On 3.7L and 4.7L engines, use a 15mm socket wrench to rotate belt tensioner clockwise till it contacts its cease. Remove belt and slowly rotate the tensioner into the freearm cease place.
On 5.7L and 6.1L engines, take away the air consumption tube between consumption manifold and air filter meeting. Using a 3/8″ sq. drive ratchet finish, launch the belt stress by rotating the tensioner clockwise. Rotate the tensioner till belt will be faraway from pulleys. Remove belt and gently launch tensioner.
Belt set up:
3.0L engines – Position accent drive belt round all pulleys besides the loafer pulley. Rotate the belt tensioner counterclockwise till it contacts its cease place. Route the accent drive belt across the loafer (8) and slowly let the belt tensioner rotate into the belt. Make certain the belt is seated onto all pulleys. .
3.7L and 4.7L engines – Route the belt round all pulleys besides the loafer pulley. Rotate the tensioner arm clockwise till it contacts its cease place. Route the belt across the loafer and slowly let the tensioner rotate into the belt. Make certain the belt is seated onto all pulleys. Inspect the complete belt path to verify belt is correctly routed and all V-grooves make correct contact with pulleys.
5.7L and 6.1L engines – Position the drive belt over all pulleys aside from the water pump pulley (7). Rotate tensioner clockwise and slip the belt over the water pump pulley. Gently launch tensioner. Make certain the belt is seated onto all pulleys. Inspect the complete belt path to verify belt is correctly routed and all V-grooves make correct contact with pulleys. Install the air consumption tube between consumption manifold and air filter meeting.
Reconnect detrimental battery cable to battery.
On 3.7L and 4.7L engines, the tensioner is supplied with an indexing tang on again of tensioner and an indexing cease on the tensioner housing.
